Este factor se caracteriza en esencia por dos rasgos fácilmente observables, el aislamiento y el automatismo. El aislamiento es de carácter psíquico y está marcado por una apatía total de la persona hacia todo y todos. El automatismo en cambio, es de carácter físico. Se identifica por una baja movilidad de las articulaciones y alta rigidez al caminar. La persona parece un autómata al moverse. En muchos casos arrastra los pies al caminar. Además de estos dos rasgos, aquí estudiaremos otros diez rasgos para un total de doce en la caracterización del Factor Zombi. Se hace un rastreo de los rasgos del Factor Zombi a través de la cultura de los muertos vivientes. Luego se consideran los rasgos en sí. Y finalmente se aplican los rasgos al estudio de las transiciones históricas de la Antigüedad a la Edad Media, de ésta a la Modernidad y de ésta a la Postmodernidad. Estos periodos de la historia de la humanidad se caracterizan por presentar una manifestación fuerte del Factor Zombi.
