I did this at the encouragement and urging of my daughter who is an avid reader and loves young adult novels, particularly those by authors John Green, Deb Caletti, and Sarah Dessen. A brief synopsis of the book: Sarah's brother dies, turning her world upside down. Eight months later, her now-pregnant mother seems to have forgotten Tim entirely, dividing her time between obsessing over the arrival of the new baby and finding fault in Sarah. Her father is hospitalized, and even Sarah's best friend abandons her. She feels invisible unless she's doing something wrong. As Sarah sets out on a path of compulsive actions, she has a chance meeting with a boy who's got troubles of his own and immediately captures her interest. Sarah navigates through a maze of discoveries that forces her to accept that things aren't always as they seem. The book is entirely fictional and meant to be entertaining in the sense that it's pleasure reading, but my hope is that the reader will take away the understanding that we are each destined to find our own path in life, and it's not always easy, nor what we may have thought we wanted, and almost always not what we expected.
